Summary

Gill Hicks, a high-flying designer, was the last person to be rescued alive from the London tube bombings of 7th July 2005. She had been travelling in the same packed carriage as one of the four bombers, Jermaine Lindsey, and was not expected to survive. Twice before she reached hospital her heart stopped, and she lost 75 per cent of her blood.

With exclusive interviews and remarkable footage from inside a tube train caught up in the blasts, this film tells the story of Gill’s remarkable recovery and subsequent determination to dedicate her life to campaigning for peace. Her burns have faded, her singed hair and dark eyelashes have grown back. She looks pretty, even serene, and at first appears physically unimpaired. But appearances are deceptive. Both of her legs have been amputated below the knee, and she has learned to walk again on prosthetic legs.

An Australian who has lived in Britain for more than 15 years, Gill’s amazing recovery saw her well enough to walk up the aisle with fiancé Joe Kerr, stage long-distance charity walks and raise thousands of pounds to show her gratitude to the staff at the hospital where she was treated under the label ‘One Unknown’. As a peace ambassador for Peace Direct, a charity which supports and funds peacebuilders throughout the world, hardly a day goes by when she doesn't do something completely astonishing. Gill’s life was devastated by the bomb blast, but it was far from over. The victim of hate, she has pledged the rest of her days to working for peace.
