IMPACT: Stories of Asia

13 x 23 HD

Large pockets of extreme poverty and hunger exist in Asia – in 19 Asian economies, including the most populous China and India, more than 10 percent of people live on less than $1.25 a day and more than 10 percent are malnourished. These figures stand, despite the region’s success over the last 15 years in cutting the number of poor from one in two to around one in four.

But the situation, though pressing, is far from hopeless. Every day, aid workers, entrepreneurs and communities themselves are developing ways to combat poverty. This series celebrates these triumphs through moving illustrations of the power of human will against adversity. Whilst providing a holistic portrait of poverty issues across Asia ranging from HIV in Cambodia to desertification in Mongolia, the series also presents a myriad of workable solutions, ranging from micro-financing to slum development to educational and cultural preservation initiatives. These solutions are at the forefront of technology, ecologically sound, and could certainly be applied elsewhere in the world.

IMPACT takes us to the heart of little-explored areas and issues, through insightful narrative and interviews with locals and development agencies. These touching stories of personal and community struggles and advances give us some hope of progress in the global fight against poverty.
