Lakeland: Inside an Evangelist Revival
Genre: Religion and Philosophy
Format: 1 x 52

Summary

When tattooed and pierced motor-biking evangelist Todd Bentley was invited to speak to a small congregation from Lakeland, Florida in April 2008, a strange phenomenon began. Within days, the deaf were hearing, people were popping out of their wheelchairs, and families were claiming that their dead loved ones were being resurrected from the grave.

Through nightly televised meetings, the word about healing and angelic visitation quickly spread and Lakeland was besieged with believers from all over the world. Healing miracle clips became top ten viewing on YouTube, and international media attention formed, with reports on the BBC, ABC News and Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera.

This documentary is a behind-the-scenes tour of the Lakeland phenomenon, seen through the eyes of the eccentric characters who are variously saved, healed, launched and wrecked by the limelight of a modern, international revival. It also explores the parallel 1980s and 90s Christian movement led by Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker who were forced to surrender their evangelical television empire amid sex and fraud scandals. The film includes exclusive interviews with Todd Bentley shot while he was in spiritual re-habilitation.
