Bizarre Burials

1 x 44 HD
Broadcaster:  Channel 5

This quirky top-rating show explores the variety of weird and wonderful ways to go out on a high note. From airplane coffins and dolly cars to ashes being tattooed onto surviving loved ones – it is an exploration of a strange yet lighter side of burials that can be both unique and at times outrageous!

The characters and their surprising stories throughout this documentary will leave viewers thoroughly entertained. One man, Malcolm Brockelhurst  has pre-planned his funeral to the letter, including a bright orange airplane homage to his favourite football team. He’s even written his own cremation song – “Fry me, burn me, toast me tonight,” which he rehearses in front of gobsmacked family and friends.  Elsewhere, we also meet a widow who’s having her late husband’s ashes tattooed as a portrait on her left thigh, plus a woman who drove around with her mother’s corpse for five days before burying her in the natural way she’d insisted on. The grieving but pragmatic daughter also kept a video diary of the whole process. “She’s actually going to be covered in sheep poo,” she explains, moments before bidding farewell.

Bizarre Burials also delves into the world of Druids and Pagans, looking at a funeral that is surrounded by mystique and wonder.  In all cases, these ellaborately planned events are incredible examples of an individul’s desire for choice at their funeral that can be as inventive as well as bemusing to watch.
