Summary

Shot in India, Tantric Tourists follows ten Americans on their quest for love, answers and spiritual enlightenment. Their tour guide: Laurie Handlers, a 60-year-old tantric guru from New York, who promises to transform the lives of anyone, anywhere!

The cult documentary is a brilliant eye-opener, especially in view of 2012’s high profile feature film release of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel featuring Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Tom Wilkinson and Maggie Smith.

Between temple sunrises, drunken train rides into the night and breathing exercises on buses, the search for the ‘Real India’ is on. Featuring a real-life millionairess, swinging scientist, Marlon Brando look-a-like and American tourists of all ages, Tantric Tourists is a hilarious and uplifting collision of East and West that unearths India’s major historical landmarks along the way.

Whilst having more than its fair share of truly hilarious moments, the film’s initial humour guides viewers into more thoughtful territory. Full of paradox and contradiction, Tantric Tourists is a touching and informative documentary which holds an amusing yet truly revealing mirror to ourselves as international world tourists.
