Throw away your old perceptions of the word SPORT. It’s not just all about bats and balls – some of the most interesting and bizarre sports in this world take place far from our TV screens and floodlit stadiums.

This series is all about the kind of sports that will get more than just your adrenalin flowing. Derived from local customs and traditions and incorporating elements from a specific culture or community – these homegrown competitions of speed, strength and stamina are like nothing you’ve ever seen on your late night sports roundup!  In fact some of them are so bizarre that our coverage of them will even appeal to non-sports lovers. Dangerous, risky and potentially lethal, many of these games are tests of courage as much as they are of agility.

While some of these sports source their origins in the distant past, others are more contemporary, often reflecting a re-emergence in local pride and identity.
