Forget the off-world colonies of Blade Runner, and the fantastical world-hopping of Nolan's Interstellar. Current engineering projects being developed by scientists at NASA are bringing the dream of living in space out of science fiction, and into reality.
The International Space Centre (the ISS) is the single largest engineering project ever undertaken. Its crew of six astronaughts fill their days with experiments and science.
Their mission: to learn to live in space, and to understand what it will take to one day venture out into the unknown, to build permanent colonies on other planets.
