London-based factual distributor TVF International has signed up with leading Asian broadcasters and producers for a documentary using aerial 4K photography shot across the continent.
Aerial Asia (8×60’) is a blue-chip 4K series that explores the region’s landscapes, ancient cities and metropolises from above.
The development of the series hails back to Mipcom 2015, when TVF’s head of Asia-Pacific Will Stapley signed a coproduction and distribution agreement with Mountain TV and the Korean Creative Content Agency to produce a 4K aerial documentary on South Korea.
That film, Korea From Above, was delivered recently and TVF has licensed it to broadcasters including France TV, Fox in Spain, DR in Denmark, Planete+ in Poland, Prima in Czech Republic, Globosat in Brazil and Discovery India.
Now TVF’s executive for Japan Matt Perkins has signed a similar agreement with Japanese production company Tokyovision, securing special permission to shoot in ultra-high definition by both night and day over Tokyo.
To complete the Aerial Asia series, Stapley has entered into a deal for a further four episodes from Singapore’s Mediacorp. The episodes will travel to India, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore and are being produced by Novista and Beach House Pictures. These programmes will premiere on Channel NewsAsia next March.
“It has been a real pleasure working with some of the biggest broadcasters and producers across Asia to create this exciting new 4K franchise together,” said Stapley.
“This marks a truly blue-chip collaboration, and with TVF International’s expertise in the global factual market across projects at all stages of development and production I see exciting scope for further episodes and series ahead.”
TVF will be shopping Aerial Asia at MyContent in Dubai, MipCancun in Mexico and ATF in Singapore in the coming weeks.
