This film offers unique insight into the US-led initiative to train and recruit women for Iraq’s New Army and police force after the overthrow of Saddam Hussein’s government. Hundreds of Iraqi women responded to recruitment advertisements and knowingly put their lives on the line to protect their country and its fledgling democracy.
They expected criticism from family and friends. They expected the wrath of a growing insurgency killing anyone collaborating with the occupiers. What they did not expect was the US-led coalition to stand by as their rights were stripped away by the very government they swore to protect. Their stories, which have remained in the shadows until now, are told through in-depth interviews, rare archival images and original footage.
