Tutankhamun doc unearthed worldwide

12 September 2017

Telefonica in Spain, Foxtel in Australia and New Zealand and ABS-CBN Philippines are among broadcasters to have picked up factual programming from global distributor TVF International.

BBC4’s documentary The Man Who Shot Tutankhamun (1×48’), produced by Wavelength Films, and science show The Amazing World of Gravity (2×45’), from Glasgow’s Furnace TV, have been acquired by broadcasters around the world.

The Man Who Shot Tutankhamun, which celebrates the photos taken by Harry Burton of the excavation of the boy king’s tomb, has been sold to Telefonica, Foxtel, Acorn TV (US) and both TVO and Knowledge Network in Canada. RTL Geo picked up the show for German-speaking Europe.

The Amazing World of Gravity, presented by theoretical physicist Jim Al-Khalili, went to DR (Denmark) and ABS-CBN Philippines, alongside feature-length documentary Don’t Look Down (1×90’). The Netflix original, which was also acquired by RTL Geo, tells the story of Richard Branson’s ballooning adventures and the origins of his Virgin empire.

Gravity had already been acquired by ITI Neovision in Poland, AMC Networks for CEE, True Visions in Thailand, Acorn TV and TVO in Canada, as well as Alliant Online and Da Vinci for channels across CEE, Turkey and Africa.

London-based TVF’s latest addition to its slate of BBC4 series is Accidental Anarchist (1×60’/1×90’). The Storyville doc, exec produced by Alex Gibney, follows ex-civil servant Carne Ross as he explores the philosophy of anarchy.

Earlier in the year TVF secured multiple sales in Asia and the Middle East for specialist factual series and specials.
