Us Now

1 x 60

Everywhere you look, groups of people are using the Internet to come together, work together, or take some kind of public action. New technologies and a closely related culture of collaboration present radical and exciting models of social organisation. For the first time in history, we have the tools that truly amplify group effort and can change politics, business and society.

Us Now is a ground-breaking documentary about the power of mass collaboration, the Internet and its potential impact on society. The film takes us inside the homes and minds of the key people and online communities pioneering new Web-based networks, from the democratic football club Ebbsfleet United which is owned and run by its fans, to the online lending service Zopa which allows everyone to be a bank manager, and the vast Couch Surfing network whereby members share their homes with strangers.

The founding principles of these projects – transparency, self-selection, open participation – are coming closer and closer to the mainstream of our social and political lives. Bringing together the leading practitioners and thinkers in the field of participation and Web culture for the first time, Us Now shows how self-organising structures can challenge existing notions of hierarchy and change the fabric of government forever.
