It is a David and Goliath story about undaunted determination pitted against money, innovation against effortlessness, inexperience against professionalism. Starting from scratch, they rely largely on dogged determination to take on the professional teams with millions in their budgets. 

Phil’s Fantasy covers the team's struggles to develop a secondhand Maserati Ghibli into a top level racing car, juggling full-time jobs with sleepless nights in the garage. As the season progresses, the friends encounter every possible setback, from fire to torrential summer storms, blown turbos, cracked windscreens, flat batteries and crippling debts, and they begin to doubt that they will ever see a reward for their year of hard work and disappointments. Is motor racing still a sport for amateurs, or does big money win every time? Phil's Fantasy goes some way to answering the question.
