Tudor England from Above

1 x 46 HD
Broadcaster:  Smithsonian Channel

The Tudor dynasty lasted 118 years and changed England forever. After years of civil war, The Tudors started the process that would eventually bring peace, stability and change to the land, and many of the places that witnessed this change still exist in the landscape today.

During the medieval period it was the great cathedrals that were to dominate the landscape, built for the glory of God. By contrast, the Tudor period is best remembered for its great houses which were built not for the glory of God but for the glory of the people who lived in them. By the end of the Tudor reign England had taken her place and become one of the most powerful nations in Europe.

The Tudor Age is a documentary which looks at this period of history from the air, re-living it through a spectacular aerial tour of its key landmarks. Among the stunning buildings featured are Hampton Court Palace rebuilt by Henry VIII and the Tower of London where Anne Boleyn was executed. From castles to palaces to ruined abbeys, this programme showcases the places where history was made, tracing the conflicts and triumphs behind the historical landscape of England.
