The Laugh Factor

1 x 52
Broadcaster:  Discovery Health Channel

This documentary takes a highly entertaining look at the science of laughter. Join a panel of psychologists, neuroscientists, doctors and other special guests to find out if humour can be used to make us healthier. The Laugh Factor explores the causes, physical effects and benefits of laughter, merging scientific experiments with light-hearted comic entertainment.

The ‘mysterious epidemic’ of laughter is analyzed by placing a couple in a science lab whilst recording their giggle frequency, taking a look at a teacher who uses laughter as an educational tool, filming a stand-up comic’s performance, studying babies and finally, chimpanzees!

Throughout the programme, comedienne Kathy Griffin provides both a useful and amusing commentary. The Laugh Factor not only entertains, but shows how laughter can be used practically: we witness how it can be used to cure arachnophobia by a series of psychological exercises and also how tickling in order to induce laughter can strengthen the bond between young children and their parents. This is a highly enjoyable documentary which educates as well as entertains.
