1992: The China-Taiwan Consensus

1 x 48 HD
Broadcaster:  CNA

Tensions between the Cinese and Taiwanese governments are the worst in decades. China has even vowed to pursue reunification at all costs, by force if necessary.

30 years ago, China and Taiwan reached an understanding that there was one China. This set the framework for dialogue and cooperation between both sides of the Taiwan Strait. In Taiwan, civilians pick up lessens on defence, businesses engage in activities to promote cross-strait economic cooperation and there are even attempts to use semiconductors as bargaining chips against war.

This investigative one-off documentary explores how that dialogue broke down and the struggles that this caused for the ordinary people.
