The battle between AI and art is already well underway.
Théâtre D'opéra Spatial was the first AI-generated work in the world to win a prize at an art fair - a picture created by an AI programme which turned lines of text prompts into hyper-realistic graphics.
This win sent shockwaves through the creative industries, where the delicate balance between inspiration and appropriation is already being disrupted by the plagiarizing of artwork for trading on social media platforms and NFTs.
With exclusive access, we investigative the growing conflicts brewing between AI and art, and the murky realm of art theft. We follow the struggles of Zhang Jingna, a photographer whose work was stolen by a fellow artist and submitted to the Luxembourg Contemporary Art Biennale. The Luxembourg courts ruled against Zhang, who was then doxed and harassed by the artist’s followers.
Is this case a sign of the troubles ahead? And how can artists protect against the total domination of AI?
