Peacekeepers

15 x 23
Broadcaster:  UKTV

This observational series documents the British troops who have been on a NATO peacekeeping regiment in Bosnia for over a decade, highlighting the real low-down of their duties. Most soldiers find their tours of duty a difficult combination of boredom, danger and incomprehension and their feelings have been captured openly on camera.

The Army knows the soldiers’ opinions and this leaves the soldiers free to say openly what they think about their situation on camera. The Army’s view seems to be that the British public deserves to have a true picture of what the consequences are when politicians make promises. We get to witness the peacekeepers' toiling it out on the field in some very dangerous and nerve-wracking situations. Some of these duties include one of the most dangerous jobs in Bosnia – clearing the minefields for landmines.

We witness the Royal Scots honing their battle skills during a firing exercise on a windswept mountainside, we find out if British squadrons can really hack it in the frozen hills of Bosnia in a routine fitness test and we are introduced to the problem of illegal weapon smuggling on trips home. Peacekeepers is a timely series which mirrors a lot of issues facing forces deployed in war torn countries today.
