Indie factual distributor TVF International has closed a raft of deals in MENA, with world affairs titles making a strong showing.
Al Arabiya picked up three programs: the CNA-commissioned China & the Global South: China’s Role in the Middle East (1 x 48 min.) and When Titans Clash: De-risking Decoded (2 x 48 min.), about the shift towards green-tech in the Chinese economy; and the RTÉ-commissioned AI & You (1 x 52 min., pictured), which explores rapidly evolving AI technology.
Al Jazeera Arabic, meanwhile, ordered Debt Bomb (2 x 48 min.), a two-part investigative doc from Mediacorp on the growing threat of global financial meltdown, while Arabic VOD service Shahid took the Hulu doc The Reckoning: Hollywood’s Worst Kept Secret (1 x 78 min.), about the explosive revelations of sexual abuse in Hollywood which started the #MeToo Movement.
History titles also proved popular, with Al Jazeera’s Documentary channel licensing Earthcare Productions’ Bay of Blood: The Bangladesh Genocide (2 x 50 min. / 1 x 96 min.) and BBC Arabic picking up Nat Geo’s historical biography Kissinger (1 x 90 min.), in the wake of the recent passing of the former U.S. Secretary of State.
BBC Arabic also licensed the Channel 4 science doc The Pill Revolution (1 x 45 min.), from Finestripe Productions, while MBC Group sprung for the BBC-commissioned arts series China on Stage (4 x 45 min.).
All deals were brokered by Daniyal Bari, sales manager at TVF International.
