Bomb Harvest

1 x 55 / 1 x 88 HD

During the Vietnam War, American bombs rained down on Laos in the ‘Secret War’, leaving it the most bombed country, per capita, in history. The deadly legacy of this destruction continues, as the country is still scattered with unexploded ordnance which kills and injures people on a weekly basis.

In the war-ravaged countryside, bomb scrap metal is fast becoming the only ‘cash crop’ available to impoverished farmers, so it becomes a question of who finds the bombs first: disposal experts, or the farmers who risk their lives in order to secure the next meal for their families. Straight-talking, laconic bomb disposal specialist Laith Stevens travels to a small village in Laos after he hears of a local child’s death caused by a bomb. Short on qualified manpower, Laith is faced with the challenge of training young Lao technicians.

Bomb Harvest shifts between the high tension of dealing with live bombs and the camaraderie that develops between the team members. Interwoven with rarely-seen archival footage of the ‘Secret War’, this is a terrifying story which is nonetheless filled with moments of humour and eccentric characters who vividly convey the consequences of war and the incredible bravery of those trying to clear up the mess.
