Benjamin Franklin popularised the idea that death and taxes are the two certainties of life. But as economic stagnation hits wages around the world, it seems that for many, struggle can be added to the list. As financial insecurity becomes a pressing political issue on both the left and right, a broad swathe of solutions to fundamental economic issues, including universal basic incomes and decentralised planning have captured the political stage. But how should we address these issues of inequality and inequity? Should solutions come from the top or bottom, from the market or the government?
