For the first time on British television, parents in a primary school are going to get the chance to see how their child really behaves behind the classroom door. The usually secret life of a Year 4 class at Humberstone Junior School in Leicester is filmed by fixed cameras over the course of one week. And some of the parents have the opportunity to watch what’s been captured.
9 year old Maisy is often in trouble at school but claims it’s never her fault. Will her parents be delighted or dismayed by her behavior in class? Her written work is certain to shock. When Corey’s mum meets his teacher at parents’ evening, she doesn’t recognise the disruptive boy that they describe, because at home he’s so well-behaved. Seeing him in class is going to be an eye-opener. It is a bold experiment where even the teachers have something to learn, as the private world of the classroom is revealed in this Panorama Special.
This fly-on-the-wall documentary is both a sensitive and a revealing insight into education, parenting and childhood.
