Next: A Primer on Urban Painting (Peinture Urbaine)

1 x 95

‘NEXT: A Primer on Urban Painting’ is a documentary exploration of graffiti-based visual art as a world culture. The filmmaker profiles the art form in nine countries including the USA, Canada, France, Holland, Germany, England, Spain, Japan and Brazil.

Finding out what these graffiti scenes have in common and also what makes them unique, ‘NEXT’ is a comment on the universality of street art and its corresponding culture, and shows how it can transcend other cultural divides such as language, nationality or race. A combination of verite moments and interview with painters, writers, designers, musicians and other participants within this super-subculture, the film conveys the dynamism and creative energy of this emerging artistic movement and sees where it has come since its inception in the 1980s as well as where it may go in the future.

A compelling film that asks questions not only about the nature of art and its relationship with street art, ‘NEXT’ is primarily about discovering a universal urban identity.
