As the name suggests, Germany From Above is dedicated to Germany, with one episode looking at North Germany, and the other at the Southern part of the country. Together they will paint a picture of this powerhouse country of Europe, whose history has left an indelible mark on the whole continent.

In North Germany, we will explore Berlin and its surrounding area, including Brandenburg and the Sanssouci Royal Park. We will look at Germany’s relationship with the sea and international trade – great Hanseatic League cities such as Hamburg and Bremen, the Kiel Canal and spectacular holiday islands such as Ruegen. We will explore the city of Cologne with its splendid cathedral and ancient history going back to Roman times.

South Germany boasts spectacular scenery, as well as spectacular architecture, such as the famous Neuschwanstein Castle. We will explore Bavaria as well as the great forests of Thüringen, and journey up the Rhine to discover some of Germany’s most famous wine producing areas. Frankfurt is one of the world’s great financial centres, and we will also visit Dresden, a beautiful city but victim to some of the most ferocious bombing in World War 2.
