This fly-on-the-wall documentary series follows an ambitious restoration project through four earthquakes to transform a dilapidated Christchurch heritage hotel into a 21st century gastro-pub.
Husband and wife team Nick and Sara have got a protection order and centuries of New Zealand heritage to work with as well as a definitive budget. All the ingredients for captivating television are there: budget over-runs, building disasters, and staffing issues run alongside demolition and restoration, design decisions and implementation, menu experimentation and wine selection. Not to mention the 7.1 earthquake that puts everything on hold until engineers, architects and insurance agents agree on what needs to be done, and who is going to pay for it.
With ongoing aftershocks, the birth of their second child, consent delays and insurance hassles the pressure is truly on as Nick and Sara battle, and succeed, to make their revised dream come true. How will the family cope when a major earthquake strikes again on the day of the grand opening?
