Duterte's Drug War: The Philippines' War on Addicts

1 x 48 HD
Broadcaster:  CNA

Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has vowed to kill 3 million addicts in his campaign against drugs. More than 6000 people have been killed in the first 6 months since Duterte assumed office. His controversial methods have caused international outrage, but the president remains intent to carry out this massacre, likening himself to Hitler.

We delve inside Duterte's war on drugs and reveal stories of poor and vulnerable Filipinos who have become the targets of his campaign. A drug addict fears for his life after being named on a police watch list during operation Tokhang (knock and surrender). His fears are shared by drug supplier, Shane, who continues to take his chances in order to support himself. With no other alternative, drugs continue to provide a living for the poor in the slums of Manila. Will Duterte’s methods solve his country’s problems? Or make them worse?
