This is the extraordinary story of the return of the Père David’s deer, or ‘Milu’, an ancient species of Chinese deer that was almost hunted to extinction in the 19th century, before being bred in captivity in France, Germany and England, and reintroduced into China in the 1980s. Today the population is slowly recovering due to intensive conservation efforts.
In this stunning wildlife special, we follow a young deer, one of the last of 7000 Milu deer living in the vast Tian’ezhou National Nature Reserve, Hubei Province, China. Orphaned as a fawn, she is taken in and raised by human caretakers. Having been separated from her own kind since birth, it’s now time for a big step: reintroduction to the larger herd. During the course of two seasonal cycles, she must conquer her fear of other deer or be isolated forever.
Discover the habits and untold stories of this unique species through never-nefore-seen footage, and feast your eyes on the breath-taking landscapes filmed in state-of-the-art UHD quality.
