Satellites Against Slavery: Fighting Crime from Space

1 x 48 HD
Broadcaster:  CNA

Space technology and slavery don’t often go hand-in-hand. One provides the freedom of the information age, while the other signifies the ultimate lack of liberty. But a revolutionary use of satellite technology could be a breakthrough in tackling one of the world’s dirty hidden secrets.

This film displays the space age technology that is being deployed as a weapon to combat those using bonded labour. The slave camps are often on such a vast scale that they can be photographed from thousands of miles away in space. Satellites alert NGOs of the giant footprints of industrial labour areas so they can make targeted raids successfully, and cut off slave holders at the source.

An army of satellites is becoming a force for good; helping to protect Asia’s most vulnerable. And soon, slavery will have nowhere to hide.
