12 x 48 HD
Broadcaster:  CNA

The vast continent of Asia was once home to mighty ancient empires that changed the course of world history. Join Singaporean scholar, Peter Lee, in this award-winning series as he travels back in time to explore the dramatic rise and fall of these great civilisations.

In Series 1, Peter explores the untold stories of four massive South-East Asian empires; from Thailand's powerful Ayutthaya to Myanmar’s Buddhist Bagan, and from Cambodia's ancient Khmer - architects of the famous Angkor Wat temple complex - to Indonesia's spice-trading Majapahit.

In Series 2, Peter explores four ancient empires in Japan and South Korea: from the powerful Tokugawa Shogunate of Japan's Edo period to the indigenous Ainu people of Hokkaido, from the mysterious Ryukyu trading empire to South Korea's iconic Joseon Dynasty, which reigned for five centuries and enjoyed unprecedented power in the peninsula.

In Series 3, Peter returns to South-East Asia to uncover the ruins of great ancient civilisations: from the Islamic Sultanate of Sulu in the Philippines and the trading and religious kingdom of Srivijaya in Indonesia, to the 1,500 year reigning kingdom of Champa in Vietnam, and Sri Lanka's Buddhist Anuradhapura kingdom.

Featuring dramatic animations that bring these civilisations to life alongside exclusive interviews with a cast of international experts, the extraordinary history of ancient Asia has never been told like this before.
